10 things to consider when choosing a spray tanner

Here are my top tips to think about when choosing a spray tanner.
- We are not all created equal. Anyone can do a one-day tanning course. Find someone knowledgeable and passionate about their field. The beauty industry isn’t regulated here, unlike back home, where you have to be a qualified beauty therapist before taking any other beauty course.
- Tans are not all created equal. What you put on your skin matters as much as what you put in your body. I use carefully selected, top-tier tanning solutions.
- Do your homework. Google reviews, word of mouth and a portfolio are all worth checking before you choose.
- Prep matters. Spray tanning is one of the few beauty services that relies on the client too. Half of a great result is your prep and aftercare.
- No prep or aftercare advice? Red flag. A good spray tanner will always tell you how to prep and look after your tan.
- One tan doesn’t suit everyone. We all have different skin tones, which is why I custom-mix from a few carefully selected solutions. I look at your colouring and how your skin would naturally tan, and blend to match. If your tanner only has one tan, maybe it’s time for a change.
- Ask questions. It’s the best way to feel confident that your tanner knows what they’re doing.
- Review and refer. If you have a ride-or-die spray tanner, a quick Google review or a recommendation in a bridal Facebook group helps small businesses so much.
- Tag your tanner. Hair and makeup artists are there on the day; tanners do their work beforehand and often get forgotten in the wedding photos.
- Share your photos. Your tan develops overnight, so we rarely get to photograph the finished result. We really can’t grow without our clients’ help.
